Intervista a Jack “The Joker” Hermansson
Dopo aver avuto la fortuna, ma soprattuto l’onore, di poter scambiare due parole con il campione dei pesi medi VFC, Luke Barnatt, sono riuscito a mettermi in contatto con Jack “The Joker” Hermansson, fighter di origini svedesi, ma residente in Norvegia. Ho provato molte sensazioni contemporaneamente. Ero nervoso, ansioso, ero entusiasta, ma ero anche spaventato. Durante il walk-out, però, è sparito tutto e me la sono goduta.
Hai rimpianti sull’incontro, anche se hai vinto a tutti gli effetti?
Ho tante cose sulle quali lavorare, come sempre, e sicuramente ci sono cose che avrei potuto fare diversamente, cose di cui farò tesoro per i miei prossimi incontri. Ma, tutto sommato, sono contento della vittoria.
Hai detto che vuoi qualcuno nel mezzo del ranking dei pesi medi per il tuo prossimo incontro. Che ne dici dell’ex Venator, Marvin Vettori?
Credo che Marvin sia un grande fighter, ma è nuovo nella UFC, come me, e un incontro contro di lui non mi farebbe scalare di molto i ranking. Quindi, se potessi scegliere, preferirei qualcun altro.
Cosa ti ha spinto a passare dal wrestling alle MMA?
Avevo bisogno di nuove sfide e sono sempre stato un appassionato di arti marziali, così ho capito che era lo sport che faceva per me.
Seguivi le MMA anche prima di iniziare a praticarle?
Sì, guardavo molto le MMA anche prima di allenarmi. Tuttora sono un grande appassionato e guardo moltissimi incontri.
Chi era il tuo fighter preferito da piccolo?
Bruce Lee prima di tutti, poi crescendo Bas Rutten, Wanderlei Silva e GSP (io lo amo NdR).
Qual è stato l’incontro più difficile della tua carriera?
Sono tutti difficili in un modo o nell’altro, ma sono arrivato fino al quarto round contro Norman Paraisy per il titolo dei pesi medi Cage Warriors. È stata parecchio dura.
C’è un significato particolare dietro il nickname “The Joker”?
Mi chiamavano Joker già i miei amici a scuola perché dicevano che ho un sorriso simile al personaggio. Poi mi hanno chiamato così una volta anche durante la cerimonia del peso perché non la smettevo di sorridere e da allora è diventato il mio soprannome.
Cosa pensi della PFA (Professional Fighter Association)?
Non ne so molto, quindi non posso dire granché, ma penso che sia bello che le persone si schierino dalla parte degli atleti affinché siano trattati in modo equo.
Joe Silva o Alex Dandi?
Sono entrambi ottimi matchmaker.
Cosa riserva il futuro per The Joker?
Voglio combattere il prima possibile. Ho già ripreso ad allenarmi!

What can you say about your UFC debut? Were you excited? Anxious? Happy?
There was a lot of different feelings involved. Nervous, anxious. I was thrilled and I was scared. But when I finally walked out there I enjoyed it a lot!
Do you have any regrets on how the fight went even if you actually won?
I have a lot of things to work on as always and there is definitely things that could have been done different and I will bring that with me to my future fights. But overall I am happy with the win!
You said you want someone in the middle of the MW division next. What about a match with former Venator’s Marvin Vettori?
I think Marvin is a great fighter but he is a newcomer just like me and a fight against him would not push me a lot higher in the ranks. So If I could choose I would fight someone else.
What did you make switch from wrestling to MMA?
I wanted a new challange and I was always a big fan of martial arts so I figured that this was the sport for me.
Yes I did watch a lot of mma before I started to train. And I am still a big fan of the sport and I do watch a lot of fights!
What was your favourite fighter growing up?
Bruce Lee first of all but later Bas Rutten, Wanderlei Silva and GSP
What was the hardest fight of your career?
They are all hard in different ways but I went to the fourth round with Norman Paraisy for the Cage Warriors middleweight title. That was tough.
Is there a special meaning behind the nickname “The Joker”?
I was called the joker by friends in school because of my joker like smile and I was called the joker at a weigh in once because I was smiling all the time and since that day that was my nickname.
What do you think about the newly-formed PFA (Professional Fighter Association)?
I don’t know much about it at all so I can’t say much but I think it is good that people are standing by the athletes sides and are making sure that athletes get treated fair.

Both are good match makers.
What’s next for The Joker?
I wan’t to fight as soon as possible. I am back in training already!
