Venator Kingdom: Intervista esclusiva a Eulogio Fernandez Jareño

Non ha un passato in Ultimate Fighting Championship, viene da un paese non proprio famoso per la sua tradizione nelle Mixed Martial Arts e, per di più, è entrato in scena senza troppo clamore nel torneo welter di Venator Kingdom, a sostituire l’infortunato Igor Araújo. Tuttavia, sarebbe un peccato sottovalutare Eulogio Fernandez Jareño, spagnolo di 36 anni, uno dei welterweight magari meno noti ma più pericolosi presenti in Europa. L’uomo che l’ha scelto come il nuovo avversario di Giorgio Pietrini, Alex Dandi, lo descrive così:

È un nome che mi soddisfa molto. Non è molto conosciuto in Italia, ma in Spagna ha un buon seguito. […] È un grappler e ha molte caratteristiche di Araújo, in più ha una striscia di 8 vittorie consecutive su Sherdog. Molte di queste vittorie sono per submission, ma si difende anche in piedi. È un fighter perfetto per Pietrini, perché, quando salta un avversario, è normale cercare un nome con delle similitudini con quello che si è infortunato.

Quel che passa: Come ti sei avvicinato al mondo delle MMA?

Eulogio Fernandez: Ho iniziato a praticare MMA da quando avevo 23 anni e sono diventato professionista a 26, debuttando in Russia nell’M-1 Challenge.

QCP: Com’è la scena delle Mixed Martial Arts in Spagna?

EF: Nel mio paese questo sport sta crescendo molto e ci sono combattenti molto bravi. Ho la fortuna di essere nel miglior team con molti colleghi professionisti e con il mio head coach “Titín”, al quale devo tutto.

QCP: Come ti descriveresti come lottatore dal punto di vista tecnico?

EF: Mi considero un fighter con molta esperienza, ho già avuto 22 combattimenti professionistici (15-7-0). Mi sento a mio agio a qualsiasi distanza, mi preparo molto bene con la mia squadra e, a seconda dell’avversario, predisponiamo una strategia o un’altra.

QCP: Come sei entrato in contatto con Venator FC? Ne avevi sentito parlare in passato?

EF: Avevo sentito parlare di Venator visto che molti lottatori UFC sono passati di lì. il manager Michele Pirredda s’è messo in contatto con la promotion e mi ha offerto questa grande opportunità che non ho potuto rifiutare.

QCP: Molti lottatori si sono rifiutati di partecipare al torneo “tutto in una notte” perché è troppo faticoso disputare due incontri nello stesso giorno. Credi che 3 settimane siano un tempo sufficiente per prepararsi a tale impresa?

EF: Ho avuto il mio ultimo incontro il 25 marzo e da allora non ho smesso di allenarmi. Stavo preparando un altro match che è era fissato per il 1°ottobre, poi posticipato a dicembre. Mi sono allenato bene, sto finendo il mio training camp e mi sento molto bene.

QCP: Recentemente Venator ha introdotto un programma antidoping. Cosa ne pensi?

EF: Non mi interessa la questione antidoping, io mi preparo in maniera legale.

QCP: Hai avuto modo di vedere Giorgio Pietrini in azione? Qual è la tua opinione su di lui come fighter?

EF: Quando mi hanno detto il nome del mio rivale ho dato un’occhiata a un paio di incontri e mi è sembrato un grande combattente che rispetto molto. Tuttavia, voglio vincere il mio incontro, in Russia sono andato contro un abile striker, Ruslan Tedeev, mi ero ben esercitato per lui e, alla fine, abbiamo vinto con una finalizzazione.

QCP: Abbiamo visto il tuo match in International Caucasian Fight Championship, nel quale il tuo avversario ti ha steso a terra più volte ma non è riuscito a finalizzarti definitivamente. Infine, hai vinto l’incontro via rear naked choke. Pietrini è uno striker molto pericoloso. Ritieni di poter scambiare colpi con lui e, forse, sottometterlo quando è stanco?

EF: Contro Giorgio cercherò di vincere come so, sono al corrente del fatto che lui sia un fighter valoroso ma sono in un grande momento di forma, ho vinto i miei ultimi 9 incontri (2 ko, 5 vittorie per sottomissione e 2 per decisione unanime).

QCP: L’incontro in ICFC è visibile su UFC Fight Pass. A proposito di UFC, hai l’ambizione di entrare a far parte della principale organizzazione al mondo? Credi che vincere il titolo dei pesi welter di Venator possa essere il modo ideale per ottenere un contratto con essa?

EF: Il mio obiettivo è prendere la cintura di Venator e poi cercare di ottenere il più possibile nella mia carriera.

He doesn’t have a stint in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in his past, he comes from a country that doesn’t have a great tradition in Mixed Martial Arts and, furthermore, he came on stage without much ado in the welterweight tournament on Venator Kingdom, taking the place of the previously injured Igor Araújo.Yet, it would be a shame to underestimate Eulogio Fernandez Jareño, 36-year-old Spaniard, one of the maybe least known but very dangerous welterweights in Europe. The man who picked him as the new opponent for Giorgio Pietrini, Alex Dandi, described him this way:

He’s a name that fulfills me a lot. He’s not well known in Italy, but he has a good following in Spain. […] He’s a grappler and possesses many skills of Araújo, furthermore he’s on 8 fight winning streak according to Sherdog. Many of those victories came by submission, but he can hold his own standing up too. He’s a perfect fighter for Pietrini, because, when an opponent pulls out, it’s normal to find a name with similitaries to the one who got injured.

Quel che passa: How did you start getting involved in MMA? 

Eulogio Fernandez: I’ve started practicing MMA since I was 23 and I’ve become a pro at 26, making my debut in Russia for M-1 Challenge.

QCP: How is the MMA scene in Spain?

EF: In my country this sport is growing a lot and there are many good fighters. I’m lucky to be in the best team with many professional colleagues and my head coach “Titín”, to whom I am very grateful for everything.

QCP: How would you describe yourself as a fighter from a technical standpoint?

EF: I consider myself a very experienced fighter, I’ve already had 22 professional bouts (15-7-0). I feel comfortable with all distances, I train myself real well with my team and, depending on the opponent, we prepare a certain strategy or another.

QCP: How did you come in contact with Venator FC? Have you ever heard of it before?

EF: I’ve heard of Venator before since many UFC fighters went through there. The manager Michele Pirredda came into contact with the promotion and offered me this great opportunity that I couldn’t refuse.

QCP: Many fighters refused to compete at the one-night-only tournament because it’s too hard to have two fights on the same day. Do you think three weeks are long enough to get into shape for it?

EF: I’ve had my last match on March 25th and since then I’ve never stopped training. I was preparing another fight that was scheduled on October 1st, then postponed to December. I’m well trained, I’m finishing my camp and I feel very good.

QCP: Venator recently introduced an anti-doping program. What do you think about it?

EF: I don’t care about the anti-doping issue, I prepare myself in a legal way.

QCP: Did you ever get the chance to see Giorgio Pietrini in action? What do you think of him as a fighter?

EF: When they mentioned to me the name of my rival, I’ve had a look at a couple of fights and he seemed to be a great fighter whom I respect a lot. With that said, I want to win my fight, in Russia I went against a skillful striker, Ruslan Tedeev, I was well trained for him and, in the end, we beat him with a strong finish.

QCP: We’ve seen your match in International Caucasian Fight Championship, in which your opponent knocked you down several times but he wasn’t able to knock you out definitely. Eventually, you won the fight via rear naked choke. Pietrini is a very dangerous striker. Do you think you can trade with him and, maybe, submit him when he’s tired?

EF: I’ll try to win against Giorgio as I know I can, I’m aware that he’s a great fighter but I’m in great shape, I’ve won my last 9 bouts (2 KOs, 5 submission wins and 2 by unanimous decision).

QCP: Your fight in ICFC is available on UFC Fight Pass. Speaking of UFC, do you cultivate any ambition to get signed by the most famous promotion in the world? Do you think winning the Venator welterweight title would be a good way to get a contract with it?

EF: My goal is to take the Venator belt and then try to gain as much as possible in my career.

No tiene un pasado en el Ultimate Fighting Championship, viene de un país poco famoso por su tradición en las artes marciales mixtas y, además, ha entrado en escena sin mucho clamor en el torneo welter de Venator Kingdom, para reemplazar a Igor Araújo lesionado. Sin embargo, sería una vergüenza subestimar a Eulogio Fernández Jareño, un español de 36 años, uno de los menos conocidos pero muy peligrosos welters en Europa. El hombre que lo eligió como nuevo oponente de Giorgio Pietrini, Alex Dandi, lo describe así:

Es un nombre que me gusta mucho. No es muy conocido en Italia, pero en España tiene un buen seguimiento. [..] Es un grappler y tiene muchas características de Araújo, además tiene una racha de 8 victorias consecutivas sobre Sherdog. Muchas de estas victorias son para la sumisión, pero también se ponen de pie. EF: En mi país está creciendo mucho este deporte y hay muy buenos luchadores. Yo tengo la suerte de estar en el mejor equipo de mma con muchos compañeros profesionales y con mi gran maestro “Titín”, al cual se lo debo todo.

QCP: ¿Cómo te describirías a ti mismo como luchador desde el punto de vista técnico?

EF: Me considero un luchador con mucha experiencia, ya ke llevo 22 peleas profesionales (15-7-0). Me siento cómodo en todas las distancias, me preparo muy bien con mi equipo y depende del rival trabajamos una estrategia o otra.

QCP: ¿Cómo se puso en contacto con Venator FC? ¿Has oído hablar de él en el pasado?

EF: Había escuchado hablar de Venator ya que muchos luchadores de la UFC an pasado por ahí. El manager Michele Pirredda se puso en contacto con la organización y me ofreció esta gran oportunidad que no pude rechazar.

QCP: Muchos luchadores se han negado a participar en el torneo “todo en una noche”, porque es demasiado cansado para celebrar dos peleas en el mismo día. ¿Cree usted que 3 semanas es suficiente tiempo para prepararse para esa empresa?

EF: Mi última lucha la hice el 25 de marzo y desde entonces no e dejado de entrenar. Estaba preparando otra lucha la cuál era para el 1 de octubre y an retrasado para diciembre entonces. Estoy bien prepardo, estoy acabando mi campo de entrenamiento y me siento muy bien.

EF: No me importa el tema antidopaje, yo me preparo de forma legal.

QCP: ¿Viste a Giorgio Pietrini en acción? ¿Cuál es tu opinión de él como un luchador?

EF: Cuando me dijeron el nombre de mi rival eche un vistazo a un par de peleas y me parece un gran luchador al cual respeto mucho. Pero quiero ganar mi pelea, en Rusia fue contra un gran striker, Ruslan Tedeev, yo iba muy bien preparado y al cual ganamos con finalización.

QCP: Hemos visto tu lucha en el International Caucasian Fight Championship, donde tu oponente te ha aterrizado varias veces pero no lo has finalizado. Por último, ganó el encuentro a través de rear naked choke. Pietrini es un striker muy peligroso. ¿Siente que puede intercambiar con él y tal vez subyugarlo cuando está cansado?

EF: Contra Giorgio intentare ganar como se, se que es un gran luchador pero yo estoy en un gran momento de forma, vengo de ganar las 9 ultimas luchas (2 KOs, 5 victorias por sumisión y 2 por decisión unánime).

QCP: La pelea en el ICFC es visible en UFC Fight Pass. Acerca de UFC, ¿tiene la ambición de formar parte de la organización líder mundial? ¿Crees que ganar el título welter Venator puede ser la forma ideal para obtener un contrato con él?
